Hijri Calendar and Prayer Time Schedule for the State of Melaka

The role of the Shariah Astronomy Division of the Melaka State Mufti Department is to publish the Hijri Calendar and Daily Prayer Time Schedule for the state of Melaka. This Hijri Calendar and Daily Prayer Time Schedule is published after the calculations have been carried out. The prayer time schedule uses the daily position of the Sun as a reference. Based on evidential sources from the Qur'an and Hadith, these prayer times are linked to the corresponding positions of the Sun.
Fiqh scholars have established the corresponding positions of the Sun by referring to the shar'i evidences about prayer times commonly presented in fiqh books and astronomical science. The beginning of the prayer times according to the consensus of fiqh scholars is as follows:

• Zuhr time begins when the Sun begins to decline from its zenith
• Asr time begins when the length of a shadow equals the height of a pole
• Maghrib time begins when the entire disk of the Sun has set
• Isha time begins when the red twilight disappears
• Fajr time begins when the true dawn (fajr sadiq) appears
